Football powerhouse Spanish giants have big plans for India. Soon, there could be an Indian version of the renowned La Masia academy and schools imparting the style of football that the club is famed for. And if all goes right, Pep Guardiola and his team could be showing up in your neighborhood stadia for their pre-season tours by 2013-14.
It can be understand that why Barcelona is so eager to open a football academy in India. Barcelona is the second richest club football in the world. And we can say that may be the best ever team to play football. But still is not popular enough in India, though it has beaten Manchester United in Champions League Final but still Manchester United has larger fan base in India. So, Barcelona is planning to take over that field too from Manchester United to grow its fan base and revenue. Barcelona insiders have claimed that their next quest is to knock United off their perch in the subcontinent.
India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. So, Barcelona targeting India and opening football academy in India is not a surprise. What ever reasons Barcelona has to come to India, if Barcelona opens their academy in India Indian football will definitely benefit with this. Status and standard of Indian football will grow with it. "We are analyzing our strategic plan on how we tackle the Indian market for the next five years," said Javier Faus, the club's vice-president.
